Whew! The past few days I’ve been busy getting all the details figured out for the “Message in a Bottle: Ocean to Ojai” writing workshops that I’m doing with Danika Dinsmore as part of Ojai’s WordFest. On Thursday, I checked out venues for Thursday night’s dinner and open mic and stopped by Old Creek Ranch Winery to talk with owner John Whitman and winemaker Michael Meagher. We also enjoyed some tasting: the petit sirah from the barrel is out of this world delicious!
I’m very very excited about how it’s all coming together, but until a few more details are set, I won’t have the registration page up. I’m hoping that will be Thursday.
What I can tell you is the City of Ventura is working with me to get some incredible room rates for writers and transportation for us from downtown Ventura to the Ventura Harbor to Old Creek Ranch Winery then up to Ojai and back. The City of Ventura’s arts e-newsletter will blast off tomorrow March 1 with articles about my March 15 reading at the Artists Union Gallery, the readings, signings and writing activities planned for March 19 at the Ojai WordFest Book Fair and about “Message in a Bottle” March 24.
What I can’t tell you is the name of the author I’m meeting with Wednesday to discuss joining us for one of our events–like the winemaker dinner Wednesday in Ventura, the winemaker lunch at Old Creek or the winemaker dinner in Ojai on Thursday night! Dinner locations and winemaker names to be revealed soon–hopefully on Wednesday.
And while I can’t make any promises, it’s looking likely that the cherry trees will be blooming at Old Creek Ranch Winery!
